Mining Industry Opportunities
Canada’s ability to weather the current world-wide economic crisis is in part due to the strength of the Canadian Mining Industry. While some individual minerals sectors have been impacted by slow downs in the export market or labour issues1, the general consensus among economic experts is that the industry will continue to grow2. The workforce forecast is even more positive. 50% of the mining workforce is eligible to retire over the next 10 years. That translates into 112,000 jobs to be filled based on current employment levels. If the commodity prices rise as forecasted, the sector will need 140,000 new workers3.
Where are the Jobs?
With all this great news about the mining industry you’re wondering why those entry level positions aren’t falling into your lap? While more jobs may be available in the industry, finding that first job will still require tenacity and a bit
of good luck.
